Blogger's Spotlight - June Edition

Blogger's Spotlight - June Edition

Tell us about your blog.

My blog is Sew it Seams by the Sea and it basically started with my need to "learn" how to sew and help others who were interested in doing the same. I found that a few tutorials were difficult for me to understand, shortcuts I hadn't learned yet. As if all that weren't enough, try learning while being left handed and having to do things backwards. Then I got the idea that I wanted to help others like me just to try and figure things out, make it easy to jump right in and have pride in what they're doing, PLUS make less mistakes along the way.

Where do you currently live/Where are you from?

I currently live in a tiny beach community in San Diego, I grew up just a few miles north in another beach community of Los Angeles.

Tell us and our readers 3 interesting/quirky/weird/funny facts about you that no one else knows.

  1. I love antiques, not like super expensive antiques, I'm talking vintage 1950's and up. Anything directly related to my immediate history, or that of my parents.
  2. I am a 5th generation Los Angelino (is that the word?  I'm from L.A.) there's so much family history for me in the city of Los Angeles, and the city has evolved so much, no matter how much time passes, the history and it's stories are what I truly love.
  3. I am an extreme dog lover, we have 3. We'd most likely have more if we could. I have this desire to end cruelty and save abused or malnourished animals. Luckily for my husband we aren't made of money, and we've reached our limit.
Why did you start a blog?

I started this blog to document the projects I was working on, somehow it makes it feel better just seeing it on the internet :] It also helped with sharing stories for friends and family who aren't living close to us. I also felt like I could help others who struggled with certain projects, maybe giving them another perspective.

What is ONE word you'd used to describe your blog writing style?

Besides blogging, what else do you do in your spare time?

I'm a stay at home mom to three kids, and three dogs. I'm always busy.

Is blogging your full time job?

Oh no! It's my outlet, my little piece of relaxation. It's a way for me to escape the reality of constantly applying band-aids, being a taxi service and a short order cook. It's where I can really be me, NOT Mom.

What inspires new content for your blog?

My inspiration is my random brain. HA! Whatever project I've made time for, or crazy idea I've had in my head and I can actually do on a tight budget.

If you could give new bloggers any advice, what would it be and why?

I consider myself a brand new blogger. I have no advice, except just write what you find interesting, you're not alone. You'd be shocked how many people are interested in what you have to say, and or do.

What is something you wish someone had told you when you first started your blog?

The advice I was given was to stick with it, and I am ashamed to say I forget that sometimes. I need to get better at posting. My oldest daughter wants to have her hand at writing a few kid friendly sewing and craft projects with school almost out that will be on the agenda.

Tell us about 3 of your favorite blogs. What makes them so special to you?

The first blogs I began reading were Pioneer Woman  and I'm pretty sure my husband fell in love with me all over again because of her recipes.

Lilblueboo, great patterns, great tutorials. She's recently survived Cancer, she's a true inspiration.

MADE, she's amazing, also from Los Angeles then moved to Texas. She has great sewing patterns, photography tips, she's an everyday gal we can relate to. AND her kids and their pictures are ADORABLE! Plus she loves yellow, who doesn't love happy yellow??

Those are my go to, always. Which usually lead me to clicking on other blogs from their sites.

Are there any bloggers that have helped you on your journey? Tell us about them.

I'm just starting out, haven't really considering this blog a "real" blog. So no real help along the way, just randomly typing out projects, thoughts and goings on in our house.

Give us the name and a link to a post that you just had to pat yourself on the back about and tell us why you love it so much.

DIY-Chevron Bulletin Board

This was my favorite post to date. I was so scared the chevron pattern wouldn't come out and the moment I peeled the first pieces of tape off I was SOOO excited. I couldn't believe I MADE THAT!!! That's when you know you've done a project right.

Thank you Stacie, for participating and entering.

I'd like to thank all the bloggers who entered for the month of June, do NOT be discouraged.  I'd like to "Spotlight" as many bloggers as I can, therefore, this will be an ongoing contest!! Please be on the lookout for July's entry form, it will go live the last week of June!
