Our Visit to the Hollywood Wax Museum - Are you a #WaxFan?

If you're a native to Southern California, you're probably familiar with good old Hollywood Blvd. Full of fun and adventure at every corner. But what's so special about this corner? "Hollywood Wax Museum, the longest-running wax museum in the United States. It has been one of the most visited indoor attractions in Hollywood since 1965!"

When I was offered a complimentary visit for my family and I, well I just had to jump at the chance to visit, I have some great memories of bonding with my dad on our countless trips to this the wax museum. It brings back a familiar nostalgia and it warms my heart to step foot inside. Want to create those same kind of memories for you and your family? Well step inside with me, won't ya?

ZonePerfect was gracious enough to send me a sampling of their three new flavors from their Greek Yogurt line.  I'll review each one individually -

Will you DARE to BARE? - Lancome & SheSpeaks The DreamTone Bare Selfie Adventure

I'm not sure how or why, but I bared it all. Okay, well just my face, but I might as well have been lounging about in my birthday suit.  Why would I do such a nut-job thing? Well...truth be known, I've done it before. Like I've mentioned in the past, I'm just "make-up" pretty.

Then I was given the opportunity to slather, okay, lightly and in circular motion, try out Lancome DreamTone.  This is one of Lancome's newest lines in the quest for everlasting youth and beauty, I'm kidding, that's just my quest.

Holiday Shopping for Him - Microtouch Switchblade Review (Video)

So you've made your list, you've checked it twice. The kids have all their toys, the in-laws, your best friend, heck even your co-workers got something. But wait, what about him?

Worry no more! I've got the perfect stocking stuffer for him! It's the handy-dandy MicroTouch SwitchBlade. Of course I couldn't gift this to my husband, because as it turns out, he was my male guinea pig!

Holiday Shopping - Pop Chef Review

There are so many items on my holiday shopping list that I'm trying to narrow it down to ONE big purchase and a ton of little awesome goodies. Stocking stuffers and such.  Enter into my shopping list, Pop Chef.  I know, I just know you've seen the infomercial, that your children have seen the infomercial on numerous occasions and that they all said the same thing my 5 year old told me "Mom, I want Pop Chef!!"

He SERIOUSLY could not WAIT for this picture session to be over so we could put Pop Chef to use!

Holiday Shopping - Ice Cream Magic Review

I watched the infomercial for Ice Cream Magic, and I'm not going to lie, I was about as excited as the kids to get my hands on one.

Why? Because I love ice cream, it's right up there with my love of pie or cookies, but mostly pie, okay and maybe cookies. So when I was asked to review Ice Cream Magic, I decided to first shout out YES!!!! Ooooh, Oooh, Pick ME, Pick Me!! And then, once I regained my composure, I wanted to make sure to add it to my holiday shopping guide.

Holiday shopping is important, one bad gift and you're on the "groan list", sort of like "Hey kids, Aunt Jane sent a gift" Kids: *groan*

Don't be Aunt Jane. Be fun. Be creative. Buy your little ones an Ice Cream Magic!

Holiday Shopping - Flashlight Friends Review

It's that time of year parents, aunts, uncles, friends and grandparents. That time of year when you have to decided what to buy the little ones.  Something on their wishlist you might find are Flashlight Friends.  What's a Flashlight Friend?

Glad you asked!

BA*Star Lip Pencil Review - Holiday Red

There is something fantastic about the color red.  It's a great "pick-me-up" color AND if you get the right shade you can turn yourself into a Classic Hollywood Icon in minutes.

I'm quite picky about the red shades of lip color presently allowed in my life, and on my lips.  Why? Well one wrong shade up or down on the red scale can turn into quite a slipper slope on the desired look you're going for.  Too many shade below the right color, you'll wind up with something hot pink or orange, something too dark and you'll wind up as an extra on a Vampire movie!

When it comes to reds, I usually stick to lipstick, it's always so moist and glides on easily.  But when I was approached to try a Lip Pencil from BA*Star, I readily accepted because I was thrilled with another product from their cosmetic line. You can read that review here.

BA*Star is a cosmetics brand that specializes in show stopping make-up! Make-up that is durable, wearable and won't fade easily. Why? Well, the majority of their clients are cheerleaders, pageant contestants, and dancers! And trust me, I am none of the above, but they make it for just regular people like me and you, plus it doesn't hurt that the make-up is so easy to use.

The product I'm reviewing today is BA*Star Lip Pencil in "Holiday Red" and it retails for $8.75 (keep reading, I have a SUPER sweet deal for you!!) Here is some of what BA*Star says about their Lip Pencil lines -

Full Coverage Lip Pencil

Lines & Colors
Stays All Day
Add Shine: Lip Gloss or Glitter
Sharpen with Duo Hole Pencil Sharpener
While I did not add Lip Gloss or Glitter, I did do a few "Holiday Red" inspired looks for the upcoming holidays using my BA*Star Lip Pencil in Holiday Red. But before I get to that part, let me discuss the selling points from BA*Star.

BA*Star Lip Pencil in Holiday Red

"Full coverage lip pencil" - Yes indeed. I was surprised, as usual, I always "prep" my lips for anything other than gloss.  I remove any flaky skin and I make sure I add just a dab of primer foundation and powder.  This will always make your lipstick, lip pencil or lip gloss last longer.  The first run through with the pencil yielded a Hot Pink color that I was NOT happy with, but after I applied a second coat it was the nicest shade of red....love, love, love!

"Lines and Colors" - Why, yes, yes it did. It's quite difficult to get a large lip pencil to both line the lips and color them effectively, but I was glad the BA*Star Lip Pencil did it's job.

"Stays All Day" - Did it ever!!! I at RIBS, yes, ribs! And hours after I applied the BA*Star Lip Pencil only ONCE, I still had it on my lips, not my teeth, not my hands, but right where I needed it! It didn't flake or dry out, it just stayed. That alone was a selling point for me!

Swatch - Holiday Red

Now here are my three looks inspired by the BA*Star Lip Pencil in Holiday Red

Elegant Soiree

Classy Prom/Homecoming

Hollywood Glam Retro

Now....here's the fun part!!! As a service to my readers, BA*Star has given me the opportunity to give you a great deal on some GREAT make-up!! If you shop now, you can get the following -

Head on over to http://bastar.com

Look through the awesome make-up, throw a few into your cart, buy some for your friends. You know Christmas is just around the corner! Once you're done shopping -

Enter PROMO CODE:  BBLIPS and get 50% OFF your purchase!!!

Note:  Discount is off the full retail price ONLY. Cannot be combined with other offers.

Resvology Youth-Activating Skincare - Resvology Age Corrective Eye Cream Review

As I've gotten a bit older, I've noticed fine lines and wrinkles under my eyelids. It's a bit exasperating if you ask me, one day you're looking at yourself in the mirror, young and vivacious, the next minute you're lifting your eyelids to see how you'd look with botox.

It turns out though, that my husband says he'd divorce me if I did anything to my face that involved knives or needles.  What's a gal to do?  I'm always open to trying out new face creams as I'm sure I'll stick to at least one of them.

What is YOUR Secret Language?

I have always had a unique fondness for astrology, horoscopes, astrological signs and the like.  I often believed it was in my nature to seek out this type of information about myself as well as those around me.

I like to think of myself as intuitive and love to search compatibility among friends and relatives.  I solely relied on good old "Astrology", but the Secret Language is unique.

Secret Language is not your grandmother's Astrology - it comes from a study of 20,000 people.  It can help you reveal your own identity as well as those around you.  For example, Abe Lincoln was an "Intentional Unifier" and Mother Theresa was an "Innocent Supportive Partner."

I found a few interesting things about me, that I had not realized when I searched my own secret language.

Let's take my Meditation for instance, I find myself ALWAYS telling people that "The grass is not always greener on the other side", yet I do quite frequently day dream about having a big mansion and tons of money, I don't say it out loud to people, but if you take what the Secret Language has to say in consideration, it's quite accurate!

I also found this to be quite insightful, as I am very reserved when it comes to expressing my feelings, thoughts or emotions.  Which is probably why I am so good at expressing myself in writing.

I searched the reveal for my friendship of over 20 years with my best friend and I loved that it called us "A Force for Positive Change" as well as something that truly touched me about a friendship that is on the verge of dissolving after many years of friendship as well and it called us "A Matter of Honesty". It gave me some great information.

And of course, like any other woman in a relationship I looked up the reveal for myself and my husband, it called our relationship "A Magnetic Mirage" and says it might be "Problematic" for a Marriage. Oops, should have told me that 9 years ago! Totally kidding! I'm not the type of person who solely relies on these types of reports to get her by in life, but they are a great source of fun and entertainment.

I encourage you to check out SLN.ME and find out a lot about people born under the same day and year as yourself, plus find out what makes or breaks your relationships with people!  You can also watch as a video at SLN.ME where Taylor Swift calls The Secret Language "Birthday Book" accurate and that it was the best birthday present she got last year.

Starkist Tuna Creations (Ranch) Review

***Disclaimer:  I was sent a free sample pouch of Starkist Tuna Creations in Ranch flavor in order to facilitate this review.  Opinions expressed in this post are 100% my own.

As part of the CrowdTap community, I am facilitated with many product samples to test and review.

I was recently sent a pouch of StarKist Tuna Creations in Ranch flavor, at first I was hesitant to try it at all. Why? Well, tuna with ranch just didn't sound appealing.

I'm so glad that these types of communities exist and that they didn't allow me a flavor to choose from because otherwise I probably would have stuck with what I know, and well that's really pointless.  It's because of them that I stepped outside the box, and gave it a try.

It sure did not disappoint! The ranch flavor was so subtle that it didn't overpower or feel like a "dip".  I highly recommend it for those people who want and like tuna for lunch but need that little extra "kick" of flavor! The tuna comes in a compact and perfect serving size, it's flaky and it's not watery or oily.  I actually enjoy the tuna in the pouch as opposed to the can.  I recommend it to people who enjoy a tasty tuna salad, casserole or sandwich, and I encourage anyone who might be hesitant to try it out as well!

I created a salad that incorporated my tuna sample -

StarKist Tuna Creations Salad Recipe (extra spicy!)

1 - StarKist Tuna Creations in Ranch Flavor
1 - Serrano Chili
1 - Celery Stalk
2 tbsp. - Mayonnaise
1 cup - Spinach
1 - Tomato
1/2 - Avocado
1/2 - Lemon
Salt & Pepper to taste

Directions:

Dice celery and serrano chili into small pieces, add to a medium bowl.  Add StarKist Tuna Creations and toss in the diced celery and serrano. To that, add the mayonnaise and mix well.

Lay out your spinach, sprinkle with salt and pepper and some lemon juice.  Add the finished tuna salad on top. Spread out an entire sliced tomato, sprinkle with salt and pepper and lemon juice. Cut your avocado in half, and in slices, remove from the peel and lay out decoratively.  Enjoy!

Family Road Trips - Nostalgia Waiting to Happen

I used to believe that road trips were just some way our parents tortured my siblings and I.  Why torture? Well, by having to sit together for hours at a time, being dragged out of bed at 5 am, gearing up the car and being told "Pack a bag". I remember thinking, who does this? Who wakes a kid up at 5 am on a Saturday no less, during the first weekend of summer/spring/winter break?

Those days are now gone, and I find that it's my husband and I planning impromptu "family stay-cations" Friday evening, then waking up our own children and having their bags packed ready to go.  I miss those days, I remember my dad working so much that we hardly ever saw him, but you know what I do remember? Our family road trips.

Being the youngest sibling, I distinctly remember being a royal pest.  Begging my sister to sing made up songs, and scolding her if she didn't do them right.  I remember my dad being "lost" and then winding up in these quaint tourist towns and getting out of the car like he had planned it this way all along.

We loved our family vacations so much, that even at 18 (yes, that's me in the 1990's black top) I would go with my parents.  Pictured from L -R Myself, my mom and my nephew, who is now 18, the age I was in this picture.
Taken at Sonoma Train Station - A place we ended up where my dad was not "lost" mmm, hmmm.
Picture taken in 1997.

This is my husband and my three boys. I took them to that very same area in Sonoma, and they got to ride a miniature train.  I hope they can look back on these memories just as fondly as I will and do.
Picture taken in 2011.

I remember begging my dad to take me to the Hollywood Wax Museum, he woke me up one morning and said, "Get ready, let's go." And he and I spent the afternoon walking around Hollywood waiting for the Wax Museum to open. The anticipation was too much for a 9 year old to handle, I remember trying to figure out how they made the wax figures and clutching my hands so tight around his that my knuckles turned white as we walked through the HORROR Chambers!!! *shudder*

For me, family vacations are not just memories on a photograph, a still of just ONE moment.  No, for me it's a joyous sense of nostalgia, that years later, builds up inside and the joy it brings, as if it just happened the day before. While my siblings, cousins and I tease each other about being pests, or getting bored, we can all agree that those were some of the best times we ever had.

Zevia Review and Fun Facts!

For the most part, and I'm kind of ashamed to say it...we're soda drinkers, but in this day and age of "clean living" and "clean eating" SODA is a dirty word, right up there with MSG...mmm hmmm, I said it!

But before you get your pitchforks and torches, we drank diet soda *brakes screeching* Ok, ok, we deserve to get torched for that!

I didn't know how much harm artificial sweeteners did to our bodies, and I took it for granted that because it was a "diet" drink, it wasn't as bad as, say, a regular soda laded with mounds of sugar.  But boy, was I wrong, and I'm glad somebody set me straight. Actually, no one set me straight, I just happened upon a FANTASTIC book to rid my body of some unwanted pounds and they highly recommended Zevia.

I knew nothing of Zevia, or where to purchase it.  So like any other person living in this century and decade, I googled it. I found it close-by (SAHHH-WEET) and I went about my way and purchased some.  That was almost 3 years ago and I am so happy that I found it!

Missing Blogger Alert....Where oh where could she be? - Personal Post

Of course, don't be silly...that's not me in the picture, after all..."I" am the missing blogger!

Where have I been? Well, what it all boils down to is lack of enthusiasm, I have over 10 products in my possession to review, and while I still have a strong passion for testing products and reviewing. I have or had a bad case of writers block, or less than stellar blogger posts enthusiasm or as I like to call it SBPE (I don't call it that at all, I'm just kidding *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*)

First and foremost I want to talk about the AWESOME opportunities blogging has brought into my life! The great and wonderful products I have been able to test out that for the most part I probably wouldn't.  I'm a creature of habit, and it wasn't always this way, I was spontaneous and fun. I've just realized that as I've aged, my habits have also become responsible adults. Therefore buying the latest and greatest gadgets or products is not on my high priority agenda....

Darn you adulthood!

I've decided to stop pressuring myself and stop criticizing and counting how many people read a blog post and who has a prettier blog or who has this or that or why didn't I get offered to try this and that.  And while all that may make me sound petty, that's not it at all.  I don't think blogging is a popularity contest and I'm a firm believer in quality over quantity. Which is why I felt that I had to take a step back from blogging to gather my thoughts and get those creative juices flowing.

It doesn't help that my house is in total chaos because I decided it would be a most excellent idea to gut it and do some "Fall Cleaning" the only thing that was falling was me, after I realized I should have just left well enough alone.

But in true "Me" nature, I always have to do things BIG....like the saying goes, go BIG or go home!

So this is my official announcement.  I'm back and better than ever.  I've been up to so much, besides cleaning like a maniac. I started new things, got into some new ventures and I've tested so many products it's going to make your tail spin (I never understood that saying, but trust me, if you had a tail, it would spin!).

Without further ado, I present to you "Word of Mouth...Lend Me Your Ear 2.0" I'm coming back wittier, and even more sarcastic than ever.  It'll be the most fun ever! I promise *shaking head no* Thank you to those who have stuck around and read my blog posts, for those who looked forward to new ones and to anyone else that I might have helped along the way.  Thank you, and I appreciate each and every one of you!

Who knows, I might even do a blog overhaul (and if my husband reads this, he'll probably be thinking, how about you finish with your genius "Fall Cleaning" idea first, hahaha, ahhhh, he's such a kidder) But for now, I will be coming back. You can look forward to regular blog posts starting in November, but for now, let's sit back and enjoy the last couple of days of October.

Calorease Review - Weight Loss

***Disclaimer:  I received this product for free from the sponsor of Moms Meet program, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer.  As a Moms Meet blogger, I agreed to use this product and post my opinion on my blog.  My opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC, or the manufacturer of the product.

As a blogger, I am privileged enough to try and experience new products and brands.  I had a great time testing out an all natural weight loss pill, it's called Calorease.

Just the facts:
  • It's easy to use Calorease.  Simply take two tablets with a fat-containing meal three times a day. But stay consistent for the best results.
  • If taken as recommended, results can be seen in about 2-3 weeks. Keep in mind that Calorease is not a license to overeat, nor is it a magic bullet for quick weight loss.
  • There is no program or special diet involved with taking Calorease. A reasonable, balanced and nutritious fat-containing diet is recommended. Click here for sample meal plans.
  • Calorease does not contain gluten, lactose, yeast, wheat, sugar, salt, egg, soy, dairy, artificial colors, sweeteners or preservatives.  It is naturally sourced from grain and is suitable for vegans.
  • A convenient blister pouch provides 1 serving (2 tablets) so it's easy to take on the go. A 90-tablet pack of Calorease retails for $29.99
Did you know?

It's understood that fiber can bind with dietary fat and prevent fat from being digested. But since most fibers bind fat at a 1:1 ratio, you would have to consume unrealistic amounts of ordinary fiber to gain any benefit--until now. The unique, pantented fiber in Calorease (FBCx) binds up to 9 times its weight in dietary fat, reducing up to 15,000 calories per month from a normal diet.

Liebster Award

I was nominated for a Liebster Award by Amber of "Always Blabbing" (you can check out her super cute blog, here).

To be honest, I had no idea what a Liebster Award was, so imagine my surprise when it was to award the bloggers who had less than 200 readers.  I was like whoa...there's an award for that? Just kidding...okay, not kidding, but still...surprised.

I think it's a cool idea and it helps spread the word about cool blogs that aren't super popular among the masses, like mine and some of my favorites.  Let's begin, shall we?

'Tis the Season? TruMoo Milk Haunted Hollywood Sweepstakes

Living in "Sunny Southern California" I don't get to experience "seasons". Fall comes in late winter, and so on, hahaha.

I was dumbfounded when BzzAgent (if you're not a member already, then please check out their site here) sent me a campaign invite for something that had to do with Halloween, until I checked my own calendar and realized we're just a few days from October.

Valia Skincare Review

I have a friend who is very much into natural skincare, if she doesn't DIY, she's out looking for skincare lines that provide you with all natural ingredients and that also work effectively.

I was lucky that she introduced me to the Valia skincare line, she talked so well about the company and their customer service, that I felt it necessary to reach out to them and see if I could try it for myself.

I was floored when they said they'd send me a free sample of their Essential Travel Kit.

Allure Beauty Event - Byuti Salon

A few weeks ago I attended a beauty event hosted by Allure Magazine, Byuti Salon in Westwood, Pureology and Smirnoff Vodka.  Byuti Salon formerly located in Santa Monica wanted to spread the word about Pureology's newest product.  Attendees were given the choice of a complimentary blow-out, hair masque or make-up touch up.

I opted for their blowout as it was one of their services advertised on their front door.  Byuti Salon nestled in a kitty corner shopping center, is located on the second floor, with its huge floor to ceiling windows natural lighting enhances an already beautiful salon.

Nokia Lumia 928 Review

I've heard a lot about the windows phone Nokia Lumia 928.  I've heard great things and I've heard bad things (reviews, mainly).  I really did my homework when it came to this phone, because I was going to receive it for free from Verizon, Nokia and CrowdTap.  I couldn't very well promote or talk about a product without being an informed consumer myself.

I waited until I received the phone to form my own opinion and not put too much emphasis on the reviews I had already read and all the information that Verizon was kind enough to send over.
